Job Summary
The Class A Truck Driver is responsible for the on-time delivery of freight between Dollar General Distribution Centers, stores, and vendors. This role requires operating a tractor-trailer safely, ensuring accurate unloading and reloading of freight, and providing excellent customer service. Drivers must adhere to all state and federal regulations while maintaining safety and efficiency on the road.
Responsibilities
Primary Duties:
- Transport store-delivery freight, store returns, and backhauls in a safe, efficient, and timely manner while adhering to company policies and federal regulations.
- Unload and reload freight and rolltainers at each store location.
- Secure all freight and rolltainers before sealing the trailer.
- Complete all required paperwork and maintain accurate records.
- Provide professional customer service to store teams, vendors, and distribution center employees.
- Ensure compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on assigned vehicles.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to push and pull rolltainers weighing 600-1,200 lbs.
- Frequent squatting, crouching, and reaching to handle freight.
- Ability to lift and carry freight weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Manual operation of fifth wheel levers, tandem pins, and trailer connections.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, and refrigerated environments.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Minimum of six months of previous tractor-trailer driving experience.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and FMCSA safety standards.
- Must meet all medical, safety, and drug/alcohol testing requirements set by DOT.

- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Comfortable with overnight travel and extended periods away from home.
- Strong attention to safety and detail.
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
